AYURVEDA & MACROBIOTICS

Subtle Energy Coaching

My primary offering is what I have come to term “Energy Management sessions” in which we explore the ancient wisdoms of Ayurveda & Macrobiotics in all facets of life (food, exercise, nutrition, activities, relationships, habits, core beliefs, interactions, work environment & work-life balance, self-care, true wellbeing). We explore how these powerful modalities can be practically applied in modern contexts and more importantly, to your individual life in order to restore balance. Once a firm foundation of the theory behind these healing concepts is explored, we see how we can apply it directly to your life & your needs. The applicability of these modalities lies in tailoring the theory of these ancient systems to your context and making accessible lifestyle changes to best support your unique blueprint of health.

These two healing modalities provide a vast reservoir of knowledge about how our food choices (and other lifestyle choices) have the power to contribute to our overall wellbeing: in subtle and obvious ways. In these subtle energy coaching sessions we explore how our choices impact the macro components of our lives BUT also, (and more importantly sometimes), how our choices impact the subtler energies that are always at play. As humans, we are incredible receptive to energy (on an unconscious level). These modalities teach us the subtle energy behind the food + activity choices we make every day and how these impact us on an emotional, spiritual, energetic and physical level in both the short term and the long term. The more we understand subtle energy, the more empowered we become to make choices that are supportive of our unique blueprint for 360 degree wellbeing.

My approach to these sessions is to weave together a variety of healing modalities to create a comprehensive and dynamic way of understanding and engaging with the quest of restoring physical + energetic balance. These sessions will begin with theory and slowly move into practical ways that these theories can be implemented in our lives.

A little bit more about Macrobiotics: Macrobiotics uses an understanding of the innate yin & yang qualities of foods & lifestyle choices to restore balance to the mind-body system. A balancing scale is used to determine the innate energy quality of a particular food/activity. In Macrobiotics to live a balanced life, it is believed that it is helpful to live within a certain range of balanced yin and yang qualities: avoiding imbalanced opposites. Macrobiotics teaches us how to eat and move our bodies in order to 1) change our mood 2) shift our energy and 3) create more systemic balance and peace.

A little but more about Ayurveda: Ayurveda also focuses on the innate energy qualities of foods and lifestyle choices but not from the lens of yin and yang, but rather from the lens of whether something is heating or cooling to the mind-body system. As opposed to staying within a balanced range (as in Macrobiotics), Ayurveda believes that opposites create balance. For example: to eat watermelon in Summer is balancing, whereas to eat watermelon in Winter would be imbalancing. Watermelon is cooling to the mind-body system, therefore it opposes the innate heating energy of Summer and thus creates balance. In Ayurveda, we have a birth constitution. This birth constitution is our “map” or blueprint for what living a balanced life means to us as individuals. Where Macrobiotics has more of a general approach to understanding the objective energy property of something, Ayurveda recognizes that while something might have an objective energy quality, it affects our own energetic make up in a very bio-individual way depending on our birth constitution. Therefore, Ayurveda takes a very non-prescriptive, individualised approach to healing.

I have merged these two practices to arrive at a deep understanding of how to manage ones’ energy (both internal, subtle energy & external, physical energy). I believe that true health, vitality and strong energetic alignment starts with one simple thing: energy management. I am so passionate about energy, and the different ways that we are able to engage with it to support our lives. The more aware we are of these subtle, yet profound ways of navigating our health in its truly dynamic nature, the more empowered we are to become active participants in our own journey of health on a daily basis. Naturally, part of these coaching sessions will be aimed at addressing sleep and stress management techniques and practises - some based on Ayurvedic wisdom, and other techniques based on modern sleep and stress science. Healing emerges as a result of an engaged process of self-knowing. It arrives as an extension of an internally established commitment to the practice of tuning in and unlocking your own innate healing capacities. The more we can pull wisdom from ancient and new healing modalities, the better equipped we can be to dive inwards and understand our own being, our own root systems and our own capacities to nurture ourselves into authentic, bio-individual wellbeing.

Additional resources recommendations (notes, recommended resources for deepening self-knowledge and the like) will be suggested to support your process of delving deeper should you wish to learn more after our sessions.

RATES: It is suggested (but not mandatory) to start off with 3 x 1 hour sessions so as to really delve into the theory underpinning these modalities to allow sufficient depth of understanding before deciding whether to continue with more in-depth individualised work. The base rate for the 3 first sessions is R500 per session, totaling R1500 for the suggested 3 x 1-hour starter pack. From this point, we will assess the best way forward together.

Note: Please be aware, that at present, these sessions are being offered online as I travel. Please contact me directly for availability.

Please also note: The advice given in these offerings are not to replace any medical advice given by a doctor, but to augment the journey towards restoring wellbeing. The advice given is largely influenced by the aforementioned healing modalities, which have richly informed my understanding of how to use food, energy and movement as powerful supports in mind-body wellness. Any existing health conditions should be disclosed so that the offerings can be adjusted to support the client in the best possible way.

YOGA & MEDITATION:

I am a 500HR certified Yoga Teacher with 7 years of teaching experience. My yoga sessions focus on creating internal and external spaciousness and fluidity. We work towards cultivating an embodied sense of safety within the soma. Through my yoga classes, clients are guided back to the firm seat of stillness and steadiness that resides within; through the use of breathing techniques, guided asanas + meditation prompts. Each session starts and ends with a guided meditation to facilitate deep surrender, receptivity and restoration of self-energy. The aim of my classes is to tenderly hold space for the release of energetic, physical and/or emotional blockages that have been lodged in the mind-body. My teaching style is rooted in Hatha Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga styles. However, it also has a variety of other influences. My teaching is trauma-informed and I work with people on a bio-individual level. My classes have a steady, spacious pace to allow space for whatever wants to emerge and make itself known. Currently, I am not teaching group classes. I am available for one-on-one sessions (either in person or online), and I am available for working on retreats. I do also offer yoga bundles of individualised self-practise home tapes (essentially tailored-to-you yoga videos that you can do in your own space, in your own pace + time). Please do reach out for more information.

FOOD AS MEDICINE:

I am a trained whole food Chef who specialises in the healing modalities of Macrobiotics, Ayurveda & Raw Food. I create wholesome, simple but flavourful dishes inspired by these ancient healing systems – systems that offer a depth of knowledge in both theory and practice on how to use food to support the healing journey. The meals are balanced, delicious and nutrient-dense. Not only are they balancing in their physical components (physical effects on blood sugar, inflammation, nutrient-density and macro nutrient ratios) but they offer subtle energetic balance (more on this to come). My cheffing is not exclusively plant-based even though there is a large focus on incorporating an abundance of plant foods into the meals. I do believe that animal-based foods do form part of a healthy, balanced and varied nutrient profile. I ensure to use wild, free-range, ethical produce where necessary. My approach to food and healing is incredibly bio-individual. Therefore, after consulting with my client/s first, we will assess the appropriate dietary protocol to restore balance and harmony and am more than happy to adhere to any dietary restrictions (gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, etc.).

  1. In-House Private Cheffing: (for a person/a family). This can be general cheffing (providing wholesome, healthy meals to a person or a family) or more targeted private cheffing (providing wholesome, healthy meals to support someone who is sick/in recovery/or has a specific ailment or imbalance). I come in and cook in your home and provide a full cheffing service. Alternatively, I cook at my house + deliver. It is up to you and your needs.

  2. One-time Private Cheffing: This is for a one-time event such as a birthday celebration/dinner party or corporate event where the client wants curated and nutritious food to be served. This, too, is individual to the clients needs (meaning depending on the event it can be a plated 5 course meal or a single buffet style service, it can be simple healthy food, or an Ayurvedic seasonal buffet).

  3. Private-cheffing cooking classes: In these sessions, I come into your home and we cook together. I teach you tricks of the trade and some of my favorite go-to, beautiful dishes so that you can re-create them at your leisure. These can either be simple, delicious meals aimed to please the palette while maintaining health OR they can be particularly catered towards deepening your understanding and practise of Ayurvedic & Macrobiotic food.

  4. Meal Planning Package: In these sessions, I offer to work with clients to create nourishing and balanced meal plans for themselves/their families as a way of making healthy eating more accessible, sustainable and functional. This offerings includes: a live/online consultation to establish individual dietary needs, a personalised PDF with 10 + easy-to-make homemade recipes, ingredient lists, a PDF with intuitive + mindful eating guidelines.

A little blurb something about me + my studies:

I have worked at retreats, universities, at various studios and have held a range of workshops and classes both nationally and internationally (on topics including yoga, mindful eating, the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda + Macrobiotics and how to make these applicable to daily, modern life). I have given talks/workshops as well as one-on-one consultations that cover these topics – with a focus that is refined to the individualised needs of each client. I have not only studied these modalities, but live them. They are a deeply interwoven part of my daily life and so, many of my understandings are informed by my experiential knowledge of these systems in practice and are further underpinned by the theoretical frameworks of these established healing modalities. I have also studied Human Kinetics & Ergonomics at Rhodes University where I studied sports science, exercise physiology, human anatomy, biology, physiology, neurophysiology and I apply these understandings to my sessions. I have done my 500HR yoga teacher training in Ubud, Bali under the amazing teacher Karina Guthrie. I have since taught yoga for 7 years. I am currently finishing an Integrative, Somatic Trauma Therapy course as well as a Tantric Meditation Teaching course.
